Too late a response to oil spill on Queensland coast?
Oil spill: Qld beaches declared disaster zones - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Oil not only in the economy making things difficult but as an underestimated and under responded to disaster damaging large tracts of Queensland coastline and ecosystem with over 100 000 litres of oil being dumped from the Pacific Adventurer oil tanker.Costs are estimated to clean up of over $100 000 a day.To assess damage done to the whole area/community/ecology would be an immense task...but it will obviously be extremely costly.Blame is being shifted backwards and forwards from who should have acted and innaccurate shipping reportage of the incident.Anna Bligh is obviously in for a bashing.More importantly again it highlights the unassumed risks of transporting hydro carbons via tankers through many aspects of sensitive environments and communities that can be damaged irreparably by incidents...that can be foreseen.
