The importance of 'the Team'

Often when groups of workers are conducting job hazard analysis (JHAs)and Prestarts on jobs the ingredient that is missed is the responsibility and importance of the whole group participating in identifying hazards and an appropriate work plan of action to rectify/control hazards effectively.On many occasions we dont realise that their is a responsibility to get everyones participation and check/verify that everyone in the work team understands the work plan and JHAs conditions that are being agreed to.

It is not just a matter of signing off on conditions...though this is important in itself...but a matter of getting differing perspectives on the agreed upon conditions and risks that we are to work under.This of course means reviewing all permits and special environmental or site specific conditions/hazards/controls.

In many ways there is much to look at,... but working as a group is an advantage in that many differing perspectives and experience can be brought to bear to enable a comprehensive analysis of the approximate workplace hazards,risks and there minimization/fixing.

Working in Teams;
We need to understand that teams are not just created, we create them ourselves by our own participation and actions.The clearer our goals and our agreed ways of working the easier it becomes to create a better working environment.Its wworth reflecting upon what we can all do to help build better and more responsive active teams for work? Our lives depend upon it.
