The Ultimate...Teams,Participation and Committment...&Fun!
I know I keep emphasising teamwork and participation but one of the things I believe we have to relearn these days is what it means to experience being part of a team and participating responsibly...or doing your bit as part of a team. The recent Supersprint Triathlon http://www.supersprint.com.au/ sponsored by BP Ultimate brought some of these things to mind as our 4 teams sponsored by TCC Group and provided also the mornings bbq breakfsast once again for the BP Kwinana site teams. It Brought these thoughts of what it means to be part of a team to me because to organise even just our own 4/5teams was a bit of a challenge along with the BBQ...small a project as it may seem in comparison to the overall triathlon. It was a challenge because, what I suppose organising a triathlon team/s meant we came up against the harsh and raw attitudes of what the real basic team relationship means... pure and simple...that is committment, responsibility, willingness to support,to be flexible, organise training sessions, encourage and have a go at participating. It also brings home the point that to have a successful team we need to have clear, but realistic flexible long term goals that give room for the expression and achievement of meaningful, rewarding smaller aims and activities along the way for all the team members to keep motivation high.We all need at times to balance our own goals and needs with the groups agreed common goals. With the triathlon I participated in, I learn't the importance of being able to rely on your team members and be able to encourage and rely on each other to be there .Teams always need supporters as well from outside the team to help them move along and so I would like to thank all our supporters at the BBQ...such as Roger Harrison,Cliff Parkes ,Tony Mattiacio who along with Brad Iannello,Terry Iannello supported all the activities leading up to the Triathlon and helped organise the day for a success. Thanks also to all the paarticipants and to Bp organiser Tracey Bence as well as the host of other support staff such as massage therapists co ordinated by Tony Bence and photographers such as Colin Thompson(TCC Group & Union Rep.) and Peter Miller(BP)Thanks again.
So thanks again and I hope all learnt as much about teamwork as me (as well as the importance of keeping fit!)See you at the 2007 Triathlon.
