The Story Behind the real 'waste' in uranium mining?

This is one articulated opinion made during the current N.T. election in Australia taking place. It cites the nuclear industry and its safeguards as they stand.Questions arise of course in regard to what should happen to such existing investments in such mining and the reliant worker and services/industries entangled and dependent upon such existing and future development contracts. What are our alternatives to such energy and markets and how can such an industry be transformed into a more positive and sustainable ,safe industry for communities and workers,...workers as stakeholders and industries reliant on such proceeds and projects .Such development goes on in the face of a lack of alternative types of projects that are"healthier"What are some of the alternative restructurings that are required to build a more ethically, sustainable, safer industry marketwise, etc.?
