TCC GROUP 'ONSITE SAFE'

TCC GROUP 'ONSITE SAFE'
Who is responsible for my safety?
Its the age old question .Who is responsible for making sure I do the right things to keep myself safe.There are two parts to this seemingly easy question.The first is that it is ourselves that must make every effort to take responsibility for our own actions.The second part is that our team mates/fellow workers and employees have a shared responsibility to facilitate and help keep both themselves and ourselves alert to the potential hazards and risks.There is no absolute line as to what this means, but in the Western Australian 'general duty of care' descriptions contained in the 1984 'Occupational Safety and Health Act'help illuminate the shared responsibilities. http://www.safetyline.wa.gov.au/pagebin/pg000060.htm

'' The duties under the Act are expressed in broad terms, for example:
• an employer must, as far as practicable, provide a work environment in which
employees are not exposed to hazards;
• employees must take reasonable care for their own safety and health, and that of
others, at work; and
• self-employed persons must, as far as practicable, ensure the work does not
adversely affect the safety and health of others.
Such wide ranging duties are called ‘general duties’ or ‘general duty of care’ – the latter
reflecting that a ‘duty of care’ is owed in law by one person to another.
All parties involved with
work have responsibilities for
safety and health at work."
